Born and educated in the west of Scotland, and resident in Cambridgeshire since 1989, David Stevenson has had a songwriting and performing renaissance in the last five years, appearing regularly at St Neots and Cambridge Folk Clubs, with occasional spots at Ely, Wisbech and Baldock.  He has also performed on the club stage at the Cambridge Folk Festival.  He took a decision two years ago to focus on developing and promoting his own material, and to stop depending on covers of other people’s songs.  As a result, he has continued to produce a series of strong, melodic, guitar-based songs, with an emphasis on first-person historical narrative, and his growing reputation as a passionate performer centres on the outstanding Great War Trilogy and the epic of migration, The Last of England.  Other songs draw on his experiences of travelling around the world on business, with an acute eye and ear for observation, and emotional songs of love and distance.

His debut CD “Unfinished Lace” was released in March 2006 and has been very well received.  He is also involved in a new collaboration with Andrew Noyes, another Cambridgeshire singer-songwriter, both for gigs and recording, where their instrumentation, empathy and vocal harmonies enhance each other’s material.
